Photo Exhibition “Sixty Smiles from Japan in the 1950's & 1960's”

This exhibition of photos by Ms Toshie Saito was very well received when it was displayed in Wellington in September/October 2012.
The photos show everyday life in a Japanese town back in the 1950’s. Ms Saito notes that people didn’t have many cars, TVs or phones back then. Japan was not a wealthy country, and times were harder than now. However, the photos show that people were still lively and happy and that they cared for each other. Ms Saito always wanted to have brothers and sisters, so she was attracted by little children’s happy laughs and mischievous smiles.
