Waitakere Japanese Supplementary School established in 2011. We provide our children can experience the joy of learning and growing up with your peers through various communication activities and cultural experiences in a Japanese environment that cannot be fully supplemented by local schools or at home. We are performing the Traditional dance please feel their passion and enjoy.

Japanese Community Children's performance

Kia ora koutou

Japanese Kindergarten and Waitakere Japanese Supplementary School join forces to perform for you today. We will perform ‘Chikyuu o don don’ and ‘Paprika’. Japanese kindergarten is a NZ licenced early childhood centre under the Ministry of Education. We provide early childhood education in a Japanese immersion environment. We admire and respect Auckland’s multicultural society and aim to provide a link to Japanese culture and heritage for children attending our centre.

SAKURA - Female Chorus Group

“SAKURA” is a female chorus group that has been active in Auckland for over 30 years. We enjoy singing mainly Japanese songs regardless of genre. We also convey Japanese music through participation in events. We hope everyone who participated in Japan Day will feel and enjoy Japan.

Aikido Shinryukan

The largest Aikikai Aikido organisation in NZ promoting a non-aggressive, non-competitive Japanese martial art. Classes are taught in a friendly environment building confidence and improving coordination.

琴音 (Kotone) The Traditional Instrument

Kotone is playing Japanese harp Koto. We have been practicing and performing in Auckland.They will be performing 3 traditional songs, which  is Sakurasakura - cherryblossom , Koojoono tsuki - ruined moon and Iwaino kyoku - celebration song.

We are a Japanese Yosakoi Soran dance group. We have been introducing Japanese culture through this exciting performing art in Auckland, New Zealand since April 2003.

Akane - Traditional Japanese Music Band

Akane is a musical unit playing traditional Japanese songs, in particular Minyo and Shigin. We play our songs on Shamisen and Wadaiko along with the singer. We are based in Auckland and have been performing at various events in the area for the past 3 years.

We mainly play MInyo songs, which are Japanese folk songs from all around Japan as well as Shigin that are a mix of Japanese and Chinese poems. We play these types of songs in our special Akane style.

We hope you all enjoy the fusion of the graceful style of Shigin, the dynamic sound of Tsugaru Shamisen and the very powerful beats of Wadaiko!

With 16 million+ YouTube views, Sayulee, a bilingual Japanese-Kiwi artist, enchants with acoustic magic. As a solo singer-songwriter and backing vocalist for global K-pop icons like Twice, she's toured Japan with J-pop stars Chris Hart, Miliyah Kato, and AI. Bon Dance (Bon-odori) - Let's Dance Together

Bon Odori is a traditional Japanese dance performed during Obon. Obon is a Buddhist event to make offerings to ancestors, and the dance is intended to welcome and entertain the spirits of the deceased. Don't worry about how to dance, just get in a circle and dance together!
